Last weekend I had an amazing experience! Last Thursday my brother in law called to tell me he was going to hike Mt. Baker in Washington state and was wondering if I wanted to fly up with his brother to capture some images of them at the summit.
At first I said “I’ll get back to you.” I wanted to do it, yet I wasn’t sure because I have a HUGE fear of flying. I don’t know if you know that about me…I have been in loads of planes as we love to travel, but flying in general makes me very, very anxious! Later on I called him back and told him “yes” because when would I ever get such an awesome opportunity again????? Exactly!!!!!
On Saturday morning my bro in law’s bro picked me up and we headed to Langley airport. The plan was to be at the summit around 9am as that is when Eric and his friend Matt planned to be at the top. They left Friday AM, hiked to base camp, then left for the top on Saturday at 4am.
For some really weird reason I wasn’t at all nervous about flying. You’d think I would be extremely nervous since this would be my first time in a Cessna. Mike was awesome and walked me through everything. Everything was so smooth and flying towards Baker was breathtaking!!!! We were a little bit early and as we approached the mountain we saw 4 tiny specs descending the mountain and 2 black specs going up. We were able to communicate with Matt and Eric via a 2-way radio once we spotted them. From the top it looked as though if we circled the mountain once they’d be at the at the top. Hahahahaha…oops…not even close…our bad!!!
We circled quite a few times and I snapped quite a few shots. Oh how I would have loved to have a telephoto lens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh well, it is ok! The experience made it all worth while and I think these pictures will be some nice keepsakes for the guys who did an amazing job of climbing 10, 775 feet in two days!!!! Great job guys!! What an accomplishment!!!
