Out & About

Since Pascal had the weekend off we all decided to head to Montreal for some sightseeing. It was a big day as this was Emma's first big day out :-) But before I write more about that...on Saturday night we ordered in and I got the opportunity to try some of Montreal's finest cuisine...POUTINE!!!! I got the regular stuff, Cheryl got Italiano and Pascal got his with ground beef. It was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo delicious!!!!

On Sunday we made our way to Mount Royal...it is a "mountain" where you can get a great view of the city. The Olympic stadium was very evident! Thankfully the rain held off :-) We also ran into one of Montreal's hockey fans.

This "mountain" is also home to St. Jospeh's church where I have been told that back in the day ailing people from all over the province would come to this church because it was known that the priest who was the leader of the congregation had miraculous powers. People who could barely walk would make their way up to the church with their crutches etc hoping to be healed. Throughout the church you can see walls among walls with crutches and these were the ones that people left behind after they were cured.

Afterwards we made our way to the core and hit up a recommended cafe from my friend Mark. Cafe Santropol is known for its sandwiches and boy oh boy are they delicious and BIG! This was Emma's first time in a restaurant and she was awesome! How honoured am I to be a part of some of her firsts?!? ;-)

Before we left, Mom and Dad hung around the cafe and fed Emma. While they did this I just went outside to capture some shots of totally random things. It has been a while since I have done that and I loved it!!!!! It was really funky in the area we were in and I really, really love the apartment architecture. I took as many photoz as I could until my fingers wanted to fall off.  It definitely gets cold fast here, but I love the crisp cold air. Boooooooooooooooooooooooo rain!!!! I am not looking forward to seeing that when I get home!!!!!

After lunch we drove around old Montreal and then visited the gorgeous Notre Dame. It totally reminded me of being in Montreal in '97 with Cheryl on our cross country road trip. Unfortunately it was quite dark when we arrived and no photoz were allowed inside the church. Therefore...I don't have a lot of pix. If you are in this city...you must go inside Notre Dame. It is totally breath-taking!!!!!!!!!!!! I totally think Cheryl and Pascal should get married there ;-)

I really love this city. If the summers weren't so damn hot and the winters so damn cold, I would contemplate moving here!!! I can't wait to come back next year with Jamie!

That night for dinner we had another traditional dish from Quebec called tortiere AKA meat pie. Pascal was happy we were eating it because it is something his family eats only once/twice a year. After that we had some sugar pie with maple sugar ice-cream! YUMMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This province is full of sweet treats = dangerous!!!!
