Most people know that I don’t read. It’s not like I’m illiterate or anything like that, I just don’t enjoy reading. Well, I shouldn’t even say that…..I have an attention span of a little kid and get distracted reeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaallllllyyyyy easily!!! I don’t read instructions for games, photo forums are a struggle, and IKEA furniture manuals…forget it!!!!
I have read quite a few books in my time and sometimes it takes me forever to get through one. A lot of novels I read are because everyone says “OMG, did you read _____?” “Isn’t that _____ book awesome?” “Oprah said it’s good, so I have to read it!” A couple of examples I can name off the top of my head are ‘The DaVinci Code’ and ‘The Lovely Bones’. I read both and I will admit that I thoroughly enjoyed Dan Brown’s novel. Even though everyone glorifies his other books, I’ve yet to pick them up. Maybe someday….
Way back when, I did read ‘The Lovely Bones’. It was ok, but I really didn’t know what the hype was about. Maybe the movie will be better, I mean Mark Wahlberg is in it…hello?!?!? :-)
One book I really, really loved was ‘The Notebook.’ I personally thought the book was waaaaaaay better than the movie. I cried and cried and cried when I read it. Soooo good! Same with ‘Marley & Me’, but that one personally hit home. RIP Thor buddy :)
So, where was I? See what I mean about the attention thing? ;-)
I guess it was a year or so ago when everyone and their dog seemed to talk about ‘The Kite Runner.’ I caved and decided to read it. For the life of me I couldn’t get through it and still to this day page 113 is dog-eared. When people say “Ohhh, have you read ____?” I reply with, “I’m STILL on the Kite Runner.” It’s kind of an ongoing joke. Maybe I’ll just rent the movie!! Is it even a movie?!?!?
So a couple of days ago we returned from a fantastic trip to Costa Rica.
***More entries on that to follow***
While we did and saw a lot, it wasn’t exhausting at all; very, very, very relaxing. I didn’t have anything on my mind and there wasn’t anything to distract me. Aren’t vacations a godsend?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?
We were gone for two weeks and I finished 3 and a half books. Can you believe it?!?! Even my own husband is still in shock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The books aren’t anything to write home about, but the fact is I haven’t picked up a book since "’The Kite Runner’ over a year ago and I READ OVER 3 BOOKS in 14 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The first one I read was Sophie Kinsella’s latest ‘Twneties Girl.’ I usually like her books like the ‘Shopaholic’ series or ‘Can you keep a secret’ because they are light, mindless reads. Her latest is ok.; not one of her best. I did notice her overuse of the word “hastily”. That seemed to really get on my nerves!
After that I read James Patterson’s thriller ‘You’ve Been Warned’. I have read his stuff before and don’t mind his stuff. This one was ok as well, but the ending was really, really weird.
My third book on the trip was called ‘Still Alice’ by Lisa Genova. It’s about a Harvard psychology professor who develops Alzheimers in her late 40’s. I really liked it and shed a few tears here and there. Very moving and it definitely makes you think how degenerative that disease really is :(
I’m currently reading John Grisham’s latest ‘The Associate’. I have read quite a few of his books and he never seems to disappoint….even though they are always about law and that doesn’t always turn my crank. I have, however, been home for a few days and haven’t picked it up since the plane ride. Hmmm……..
Back to life, back to reality, back to distractions. I think it’s time for another vacation :-)
Thanks for stopping by :-)
Love, peace & hugZ
