Wow oh wow! Jame and I just got back from our week long trip to Bucerias (north of Puerto Vallarta) and I am totally procrastinating by looking at pix rather than unpacking and doing laundry. If you are reading this post, thanks for stopping by and reading up on our trip. Well, where do I begin?!?!?
****Warning – You are about to view several pictures of Sara and Jamie. If you are uncomfortable with that, consider yourself warned ;-) WAIT…I just re-read this and it sounds bad!!! Hahahaha….of our gorgeous faces I should have said ;-)*****
We stayed at an all inclusive resort called the Royal Decameron and it was great!! The food was delicious, the service was lovely, the entertainment was wicked and we had a stellar room. When we checked in, we had to wait a bit as the guy checking us in was chatting with some other hotel worker who interrupted the whole process. She took the slip the guy was supposed to give us with our room info. and came back with a new paper. We didn’t know what was going on, but as we went to our room we realized we were practically beach front while all of the other people on our flight were placed at the back part of the complex. We don’t know if their conversation in Spanish had anything to do with this, but whatever…we like to believe it was the reason. :-)
After dropping off our bags we hit the beach and then later in the afternoon took shelter under a palapa as a massive thunder and lightning storm rolled through. It is the end of the rainy season there right now and never in my life have I heard thunder that loud. The storm the next night was even louder and shook the glass in the hotel room!!! Anyway…that night was an early one since we had been up on only 3.5 hours of sleep.
On Sunday morning we woke up nice and early, had some breaky and made our way back to the beach with our bubba kegs in hand (thanks to TM and Bouwman). Jame was all about the gin and tonic and I was all about pepsi and cafe liquor. Mmmmmmmmmm!!!!!!! We spent a lot of time in the ocean with some boogie boards. I have never swum in the ocean with non stop waves. It was fun, but we both definitely took a beating from the 4-6 ft. waves once or twice. While in the water we struck up conversation with quite a few people and that is where we met Laura and Manuel (Manu). They had just arrived that day from Montreal and we instantly hit it off. Not only are they totally hilarious, but they were our age. Everyone else we met was either in their early 20’s or 40+. Not that we are ageist or anything…..but it was nice to chill with people we had tons in common with. We ended up hanging out with them for most of the trip.
The next day we started off doing the same thing as the day before. That night we had dinner with Laura and Manu and we were introduced to BATS (aka – Big Ass Timbits—named by Jame and Laura). If you are Canadian you know about Tim Horton’s and mini donuts. Well, this was the perfect combo and they were TO DIE FOR!!!!
**The camera was still adjusting to the humidity**
After dinner we sprinted to the lounge (our numero uno hangout) during yet another rainstorm, had some more bevies, and then some more! Evenutually we went to check out the disco to get our dance on. It was there we listened to non stop Spanish techno. Oh yes….I forgot to say that upon our arrival we noticed that the population at the resort was about 80% Spanish, 10% Western Canadian and 10% French Canadian. Not like that was an issue or anything, but I think because there were so many Mexicans on vacation the music catered mostly to them. We met some men from the SOL factory that were hilarious. All they wanted to do was take our picture and dance with us. These guys were machines! The music was sooooo fast we couldn’t keep up and everyone else around was go go go! What a workout! Especially since at night the temp. was still in the mid 30’s.
On Tuesday we got up and it was raining. I knew it was rainy season, but I was still bummed it was wet. Thankfully it didn’t last long! Since the weather wasn’t awesome, we decided to walk to the nearby town of Bucerias, take some pix and check out the market. Most of those pix I took with my DSLR, so they will follow in another post. We looked at the local merchandise and got tipsy off some tequila tasting. Before we knew it it got smokin’ hot again, so we headed back to the resort, got in our suits and hit the pool. The waves were starting to pick up and fighting them was exhausting at times, so the pool hit the spot.
On Wednesday we woke up, had breaky and took the local transportation into Puerto Vallarta. We took in the local sites there, walked along the malecon (sea wall) and had lunch at a DELICIOUS burrito place. It was a hole in the wall, but they served the most tasty beef burrito in the whole world! PV is nice, but pretty commercialized which I wasn’t a fan of, especially the non-stop “Want a taxi?”, “Want to go on a tour?”, “Want to eat at this restaurant?” yadda yadda! I bet we said “No gracias” a thousand times that day. Nonetheless it was a nice city….don’t get me wrong. It’s just not my style of city I like to travel to. I took a lot of pix with my DSLR again, so those are to follow. After spending most of the day in town where it was crazy hot, we took a crazy bus ride back to the hotel and hit the beach yet again :-) before it started to downpour.
**This lil guy made us miss MJB**
On Thursday we stuck to the routine of breaky, booze, and beach. I once again hit the ocean with my boogie board while Jame played some volleyball when I got crushed by a wave. I was swimming out and saw a massive one coming and I didn’t have enough time to turn around and go under, so the wave slammed me in the side of the head and knocked me under. When I surfaced I couldn’t hear anything and my ear was throbbing. I headed back to our loungers in pain and needless to say that was the last time I swam in the ocean. Later on in the afternoon Jame went out boogie boarding when a wave picked him up and chucked him around like he was in a washing machine. He rolled and tumbled and slammed into the bottom of the ocean and surfaced all scratched up. Needless to say that was the last time he swam in the ocean. Boy oh boy it was rough! It was ok at the beginning of the trip, but towards the end it seemed to get rougher and the waves higher.Weird! Beautiful to watch though!
Unfortunately these pictures don’t give you a good idea as to how high they were. Oopsies!
After taking a beating we decided to head back to the pool where we met some of the locals ;-) That night we had a tasty dinner at the Italian restaurant and later on we made our way to a local pub to catch the Canucks first game of the season. After the first period we left. Damn you Flames!!! We met up with Manu and Laura for another night of fun times!
**My friend Heather once again singing the anthem**
**Our attempts of a self photo**
**The waiter taking a photo for the 4th time. Blue steel meets move 45 degrees! Ahahahha**
Friday was our last full day in Mexico. The same morning routine applied and Jamie saw some guys playing competitive vball, so asked if he could join in. The next thing he knew he was playing in a tournament with all Mexian guys. It was sooo hot, I couldn’t believe how Jame could play! He rocked it and was the best out there!!!! His team won gold! Yay!
Afterwards we headed to the pool and hung out with some peeps we met throughout the week. We stayed in the pool as long we could because we didn’t want the day to end! We had our final dinner, took in the night show which was similar to Cirque (amazing), met up with peeps at the lounge, then headed to the beach to watch and listen to the waves for the last time. We had some fun with the camera at night which kind of produced a neat effect.
On our final day we woke up bright and early, headed to the beach and said our goodbyes. One group we met up with said Jame had some pictures posted of him by the souvenir shop. This guy was a rockstar. First he got on stage in a dancing competition (I have no pix cuz he had the camera in his pocket), participated in the Mexican Olympics and won gold in volleyball. Everyone knew who he was!
Finally we checked out and headed to the airport. Booooooooo!!!!!!! Overall it was a great, great week with a load of rest and relaxation! Although, I will admit a week of sun and booze can be exhausting. We know a lot of people who had visited the resort in the past and we agree with them, it was wonderful for the price we paid!!!! The only thing I would have preferred was that the adult pool had a swim up bar. Hahahaha! Other than that it was all fantastic! Thanks for taking the time to read up on our trip and stay tuned for my DSLR pictures. :-)
