Mom pickin' up in Portugal

As soon as my mom reads this she is going to kick my a#$!!! But the moment this encounter happened I told her I was going to blog about it! I warned ya mom :-)

Quite often we were randomly stopped by people wanting to talk to us in English and talk to us about Canada. At first I wondered how they knew we were Canadian, but then I clued in that they must have noticed the multiple Canadiana type thingies attached to my camera bag.

The same day we were in Loule we were walking down the street in search of a coffee shop. As we were walking across the street a man in his 70's or so stopped my mom and asked if she was Canadian. This was weird because he was walking towards us and hadn't yet seen my camera bag. I guess it is true what they say that Canadians are beautiful people! My mom stopped and said 'yes' and he proceeded to tell us **in broken English** how he had been to Niagra Falls etc. I think all he really wanted to do was practice speaking English and have some nice conversation--either that or try to pick up my mom :-)

He asked us if we were sisters and I told him I was her daughter and he kept saying over and over "No, I don't believe, no I don't believe." It was cute and boy did it ever make my mom's day! I might add that this was not the first time people thought she was my sister! SHE LOVED IT!!!!!

My mom is super sweet, so she proceeded to chat with this man for quite a while. I stood off to the side and took random pictures of random things. This guy didn't want anything to do with me, he wanted my sister :-)

He invited us for lunch, but we declined since we had to get back to our bus. So he asked for my mom's address and number. For what reason I have no idea, but she gave it to him.

The night we came home my mom called me laughing her head off saying that buddy had left her a message. She let me listen to it and it was hilarious. It was something along the lines of:

"JENny...JENny...JENny..this _____his name_____. I from Portugal. JENny..JENny..I write letter tomorrow to you...ok? ok? ok? JENny...bye"

One week ago or so my mom received a letter from him in English. Someone wants a pen-pal!! :-) I told my mom to work it!! This guy has 2 places in Portugal, Hello??? Can you say summer house in the Algarve? WORK IT MOM! When I mentioned that to her she couldn't stop dry heaving!

HAHAHAHHAHAHA!! This is one of my favourite memories and puts a huge smile on my face. What a sweet ol' man this guy is! Here was some photoz I snapped from afar.
