Tick Tock Tick Tock Tick Tock

Well, as most of you know...Madonna was in town on the 30th and it was her first visit EVER to Van-city! As soon as the tickets went on sale, a few of us were working like mad trying to get some tix on-line while conversing on MSN at the same time. Luckily we were able to get 4 seats together and as we found out on Thursday...they were pretty decent given that it was in BC place and all!

For some reason I wasn't as pumped as I normally get for shows this time around. Maybe it was due to the fact that a) it was in BC Place and there is a reason why that venue is rarely used for concerts, b) I hadn't heard any outstanding reviews for this tour or, c) I was missing my trusty concert buddy Nicolle who is currently out east! HugZ

It didn't take me long to get excited though. As Jo and Alex and I were waiting for my friend Linsday...we felt ourselves "Getting into the groove". In addition to Nic, these are the best ladies to go to a show with!

Madonna had a DJ open for her and she didn't end up taking the stage until about 9:30. I have never been to a concert before with that many people....the stadium sold out...55 000 people! As soon as she took the stage we all couldn't help but notice how RIPPED this 50 year old lady is! Her quads were bulging out, her abs were evident and her little bum cheeks were sticking out of her lil red shorts! She looked absolutely AMAZING...except I thought her arms were a little too "manly", but whateve....she's one hot lady!!!!!!

The next day people were asking me"Sooo....how was it?" This was the first time in a long time I answered "It was ok." Don't get me wrong...I had a great time, but was it in my top 3 concerts of all time....not so much.  Here are my reasons why:

  • Her song selection, in my opinion, was mediocre. She did play some oldies, but not as many as I thought she would have. "Like a virgin" is one of her most popular songs, so I thought she would have done something crazy/fun for that song. Instead, she sang one line and had the audience sing another. This was only done for 1/4 of the song!
  • She used an electric guitar for a lot of her songs and she tried to rock out hard. When I think of Madonna...I don't think rocker!
  • The bass reverberated throughout the stadium quite a bit, but that couldn't have been prevented because of the stadium itself
  • She seemed pressed for time. She commented that the MASSIVE clock had been f*$%&@! staring at her all night...fair enough...it was big!! BUT SHE DIDN'T EVEN DO AN ENCORE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wtf!

This isn't a Madonna bashing entry! Here are some good things:

  • #1 - the peeps I went with :-)
  • "Get into the groove" was performed well. It was really entertaining....80's outfits and skip rope is all I have to say.
  • She did play my favourite song "Like a prayer" and it was revamped into a very cool version! Hands down the best song of the night!
  • She can bust a move and definitely had a lot of energy.
  • "4 minutes" was played and of course...my boyfriend Justin was plastered all over the screens! Definite highlight!

All in all it was a fun night and I can now check Madonna's name off my "Artists left to see live" checklist. I don't have too many names left on that list :)
