Extremely Fortunate

I am a grown woman with two younger, yet also grown up, brothers. Just a few years ago my parents decided to split up. For a lot of people divorce has a lot of negative connotations associated with it. I feel that my family is extremely rare in that our whole family continues to get together for holidays, birthdays etc. My parents still converse with each other and occasionally hang out. A lot of people I know found their situation to be "weird/strange", which at first used to bother me. However, the more I thought about it the more I started to understand where they were coming from. How many separated couples do you know of that still manage to stay in each other's lives? I feel very, very blessed knowing that those negative connotations do not apply to the Manning family :)

Today is my mom's birthday and the whole clan came to Vancouver. We went to Kam's for dinner and then back to our place for dessert. Now my mom is probably going to kill me for sharing this with everyone (her age that is), but it has always been her dream to visit Portugal before she turned 50. With this being her 49th b-day my dad decided to send her AND me to Europe for a girls only get-away. Woooo Hooooo!! A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!!

So to make it somewhat interesting I decided to make an acronym. Each letter making up the word Portugal had a phrase attached to it. One by one she pulled each scroll out of the bag and read the sentence. At first she wasn't too sure what was going on, but then she figured it out. Then, when she pulled the Portugal book out of the bag and got the travel voucher....well, that sealed the deal. Once the initial shock settled in, the tears began to flow and the hugs started to fly. It was a very cool moment!

How pumped am I that I get to spend time with my mom in one of the most beautiful countries in Europe. We aren't too sure when we are going, but we are thinking of April or September. It all depends on when I can get some time off. Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo exciting!!!!!!! Thanks a ton pops and here's to a great time mom!! : )
