Locked Up
Last night we went out to dinner to a cool place called "Lock Up". It is an entertainment restaurant with a whole prison theme to it. As soon we arrived the hostess hand-cuffed one person in our party (me) and led us to our table.
Because we were a party of 6 we were placed in a "large cell", but if you are only a party of two you are put in a tiny room that looks a lot like a jail cell. We started off with some drinks and then ate some food. Some of the things we ate were quite interesting (i.e. - strips of raw meat, deep fried chicken cartilage -- both very common dishes in Japan). I was a sport and tried the meat, but I couldn't stomach the chicken cartilage. I put it in my mouth and attempted to bite down, but as soon as I realized I had to bite down harder I took it out of my mouth...there was NO WAY! My friends were so surprised to hear that when we prep chicken at home, we CUT OFF the fat and cartilage.
We ate some other tasty dishes including the best takoyaki (octopus balls) I have had thus far in Japan. Not only was the presentation amazing, but they were delicious as well. For some reason, some dishes have a "spicy surprise" in them. We had 6 takoyaki balls and one of them was extremely spicy. Unfortunately Toshimi got the spicy one. The same thing happened to one of the dessert platters. One of the bean paste sweets was spicy. There were only 3 on the plate, so we all played paper/scissors/rock for them. Kazu, Anthony and Jamie won.....unfortunately Jame got the spicy one and by the look on his face and his watery eyes...it was spicy!!!!
About an hour or so into our dinner all of the lights turned off. Strobe lights and black lights were turned on with some loud Rob Zombie music playing in the background. This is when people dressed up as monsters etc. ran around the restaurant into people's cells freaking eveyone out.....throwing things around....slamming the cell doors shut etc. It all stopped when the lady prison guards caught them by shooting them with a cap gun. It was pretty cool...definitely a fun place to go.
Later on in the night dessert was ordered. Yasu was in charge of the ordering and in total we had 7 different dishes brought to out table. Once again the presentation was AMAZING and each dish tasted sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good! The chocolate lava cake was the best dessert I think I have ever had!
When it was time to pay Jame and I had a feeling we were going to have to pay an arm and a leg. There were 6 of us and we each had to pay 3000 yen. Not bad for some eats, a few drinks each and a ton of yummy desserts!
Here are some pictures from our night and a couple of videos :)

The video of the guy dropping his cigarette was hilarious, almost burned the place down while you were there eh?!
When I read, "deep fried chicken cartilage" I dry heaved a bit. Then when I read, "I put it in my mouth and attempted to bite down, but as soon as I realized I had to bite down harder I took it out of my mouth" I not only threw up in my mouth, I also let out a little "hey-oh"!
GREAT STORY!!
UMMM, dude i can't believe you ate raw meat, i am so surprised. I guess we can't call you a picky eater anymore eh? LOL good times.
Holy crap! The video is hysterical! Someone should take full advantage of the themed restaurant you guys went to- here in Vancouver! It looked like Halloween! Loved it! Especially of course hearing Sara laughing in the background! Ummm passaroony on the cartilage though...interesting though. Is the raw meat flash frozen like sashimi?
LOL with you! Love it.
Also love the "surprise spice". Makes eating even more fun!
