On Wednesday December 27th we had our first house-guests come to visit us, Jamie's parents. We picked them up Wednesday night and headed straight home because we figured they would be pretty bagged. I remember arriving in Osaka after the long flight and we were so exhausted! As soon as we walked in the door and they got their luggage all organized they crashed.
The next morning was brutal!!!! Typical Sara style and luck.....I woke up and my lower back was OUT! I have had this nasty, hard-core cough and I figure that I tweaked my back in my sleep from coughing so hard. I was in so much pain and basically immobile. I decided to go the to chiropractor with the hopes he could instantly cure me, while Jame and his parents went to get their train passes activated. I called them after chiro and said I was going home because of all the pain I was in, so they decided to take in some of the local sites around Namba and Umeda.
That night chiro wanted to see me again, so we all headed back downtown. After my appointment we attempted to find somewhere to eat, but it was so busy everywhere. We decided to head back home and hit up the local izakaya for some good eats and drinks. We introduced them to some famous Japanese dishes like sashimi, nabe, okonomoyaki, and of course my favourite drink...and now Patty's -- chuhai!
That night I prayed and prayed that I would wake up the next morning and poof...my back would feel great. Unfortunately that was not the case :( I was and still am sooooo upset that this had to happen now! Grrrrrr.....
On Friday Jame took his folks to Nara. The place with all the deer and the great big Buddha at Todaiji temple (still one of my favourite sites in Japan by far). Again, they came back at dinner time, so we headed to the World Trade Center to check out the World buffet. The restaurant is on the 48th floor and at night it offers a spectacular view of the city.
On Saturday we hung out around the neighbourhood. We went to Tempozan village where the folks bought some souvenirs and then we went to one of the most popular tourist sites in Osaka -- the Kaiyukan (aquarium). Jame and I had never been there before, but we had heard that it is one of the best aquariums in the world. It was MAD packed busy with people!!!!!!! I know why....I thought it was wicked! Later on, we came back to our place to have some drinks and then attempted to take them out for dinner to our favouite Chinese restaurant. It ended up being closed for the New Year holiday.
New Year's is pretty big here. It is a time for family to gather and eat lots of yummy food. Many stores and restaurants in the area and family owned, so it was hard to tell what would be open and when things would close. We walked around trying to find somewhere to eat and either the places were closed or they didn't offer a menu in English. So off we were and went back to the izakaya we went to the first night. More good food and lots of beer and chuhai!!! We got home and relaxed with some tasty creme de menthe on ice then called it a night because we knew the next day (New Year's Eve) was going to be a looooonnnnggg day/night!
**The last 4 photos you can see just how much fun Jame had this night! Tee hee **
It hasn't rained at all since they have been here (knock on wood). The only weird weather day was when they were in Nara and it actually started to snow!
Other then that the air has been crisp and the sky blue :)
